Today is a very infamous day in American history, the destruction the Twin Towers and the loss of over 3,000 innocent victims. A cry went forth, “we shall never forget”. Sadly, already the memory grows dim for many Americans. We must remember there is a certain religion that hates everything about America and Western culture in general. Not all Moslems are bad, not all Moslems hate America. I often see Moslem families in airports as I travel, except for the ladies attire they look like any other typical middle class Americans, laughing, talking, taking care of their kids and texting on their cell phones.

Not all Moslems are bad, but the religion of Islam is… there has always been conflict between America and Islam. This dates back to colonial days when Islamic pirates boarded American vessels and slit the throats of the American crew. Our marines were fitted with leather collars to give them at least some protection. Hence, still today our marines are called leathernecks. Islam has neve...

One of the most under served mission fields in America is within prison walls. One of the best examples of what can be done is here in our home state of Louisiana.

Angola prison had a reputation as the most violent prison in America. Warden Burl Cain was determined to change that image. His prison reform program took time but Angola is now a model of what can be accomplished through Christ. Not only is the Word of God taught, but they have also built several church buildings inside the prison walls.

Over a decade ago, Louisiana Baptist University teamed with Exodus Ministries out of Texas to offer degree programs to prisoners while they are incarcerated. Statistics prove that as high as 70% of prisoners return to prison shortly after their release. When prisoners earn a college degree, those numbers are completely reversed.

The results of our prisoner program have been nothing short of amazing. What began as an undergraduate program has now changed. We are seeing many prisoners enroll in...

Like many of you, I am very worried about what has happened to our country in the last two or three decades, and especially in the last few years.  Our public schools have been stripped of any vesture of Christianity. Most secular universities are over run with liberal, socialist teachings.  Then there is abortion, same sex marriage and general moral decline.

Is there any hope for a return of Christian values? Don’t expect a miracle, but there is cause for optimism.  Numerous articles report that at least nine of Trump’s cabinet are devout Christians, active in their local church.

In the 115th Congress, 91 percent of those elected describe themselves as Christians.  This is in spite of the fact that only 71 percent of the general public describe themselves as Christian.  Most of the nine percent of non-Christians serving in Congress are democrat with only two Republicans classifying themselves as non-Christian.

Don’t expect a miracle or a complete rollback to Christian principle...

I trust that you had a great Christmas and looking forward to a very prosperous New Year.  I am excited about all the things that we are planning here at LBU.

We are already making plans for our May graduation.  The dates this year are May 9 – 12.  We have some great workshops planned for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  There will be 10 great workshops with 15 different speakers.  Dr. Elmer Towns, Co-Founder of Liberty University will do one of our workshops.

Friday will be a busy day, beginning with our special Graduate and Alumni breakfast. On Friday afternoon our graduation speaker is Dr. Johnny Hunt, pastor of the great Woodstock Baptist Church and former president of the Southern Baptist Convention. He is one of America’s greatest speakers and we are blessed to have him.  Immediately after graduation will be our Cajun Feast, there you can feast on some of Louisiana’s best seafood.

I am purposely keeping this month’s newsletter short because in the next two weeks I wi...

If we preach that Christ is the only means of salvation it is called bigotry. If we preach against same sex marriage then again we are branded as homophobic.  Do not be intimidated by modern culture.  We are called and commissioned to preach the Word. If we fail to do so, then we have failed our calling.  Scripture cannot adjust to fit the culture of the times and neither can we.

The Bible says, pray for them that despitefully use you, and persecute you.  We must pray that God will forgive them.  You will remember that Jesus prayed for those soldiers who crucified Him on the cross when He said, “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34). Jesus shows us the model on how we can love our enemies.

I remember a situation many years ago when a colleague of mine did me great hurt.  It also hurt my church. My natural inclination was to just write him off and forget him forever.  Instead, I took these verses to heart and placed him at the very top of my prayer list.  Each day when I prayed I prayed for him first.  At first I probably prayed with a wrong spirit, but I continued to do as Gods word commanded and gradually God began to change things.  Today we are long-time friends.

As a pastor, leader or layperson you will many times come upon people that will disagree with you; many times angrily.  Don’t...
